Supporting Community Through Reading

Welcome

Welcome to The Virginia Yerxa Community Read website. The VYCR seeks to promote reading, and support our community, through an annual book-in-common experience.

"Spring meant work, summer meant harvest, fall a time for gratitude, and winter a pause for reflection."

The 2024 Virginia Yerxa Community Read Committee selection is David Mas Masumoto’s Epitaph for a Peach: Four Seasons on My Family Farm as the 2024 book-in-common. First appearing in 1987 as an essay in the LA Times, the memoir was published in book form in 1996. Almost three decades later,Epitaph for a Peach reads as poetically as ever, capturing the tenacity, flexibility, and resolve it takes to keep a family farm running in California.
